connection issues

Good afternoon, if someone in the know could take a look at my problems they'd be most appreciated.  I moved properties and my bt/internet came online on Wednesday as planned.  In the evening my connection was dropping out all over the place, but your supposed to expect issues for up to 24 hours i believe so left it alone.

Anyway I work over the internet but only use ssh so not likely to spot a lot of issues as its real light use...so who knows when it started, but Friday afternoon it started cycling through disconnect, then reconnect, then about 30 seconds before repeat.

I've been thru the obvious reconnecting all the cables, swapping out microfilters, resetting the router and still the problem persisted.  I rang up via the 0800 number the hub tells you to call.  I went without Internet for about 3 weeks earlier in the year whilst these support people gave me the run around and didn't really listen to me...but i rang anyway.  The guy was seemingly helpful and proceeded to get me to remove the plate and plug into the other socket and then run some tests.  Nothing noticeable happened on my end, he proceeded to take my mobile number...called me on it to let me know to keep off the line whilst he tested, and that he'd call back when done.  He didn't call back, but about an hour later it stayed connected which allowed me to continue to work.  It stayed connected from then...

Although the 'broadband' has been on, general Internet use has been awful, i can't watch youtube, iplayer and such at all without only a few seconds of use before it cutting out.  Was getting 1500ms ish ping to places like google and such.

I bought 1.25gb game on the xbox earlier which its been 'downloading' > 8 hours and got to about 60%...despite constant broadband connection.

I've recently reset the router (homehub 2) and its gone back to the cycling between dc'ing, reconnecting.

I really don't want to go thru the weeks of pain and hassle i went thru before and seem to remember this forum actually resolve it all.  Last time i had to spend weeks working in public places to leech/use public wifi.

Looking at these forums for suggestions i've rang the 17070 option 2 number and only heard quiet ( or possibly a slight hum...but i guess that is just audio 'nothing' ).

In case any BT types are about my landline number is ***removed****

i never have a landline plugged into it so is no worry for randoms calling it 🙂

Anyway if some lovely person can offer some advice i'd be eternally grateful

regards,

James

Re: connection issues

Hi Welcome to the forums

Here are some help pages done by CL Keith http://www.btinternet.com/~cbeddoe/speed/Speed.html

Can you also post the full results fromBT Speedtest speedtester.bt.com

Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket  Test Socket.jpg

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Re: connection issues

As requested i've remove the landline and post code.
Yes, i've tried the test port...and done the 17070 test, thanks.

As i can't maintain a connection for more than 30 seconds currently i haven't been able to run the speed test. If this morning is anything to go by...its super slow. I'm using a "3 mobile broadband - pay as you go" dongle to get here, whic is what i ended up having to use last time 😞

thanks for your time 🙂

Re: connection issues

you are currently in a 10 day line training period during which time you may get disconnections as the exchange equipment finds your fastest stable speed

Re: connection issues

your speed is low most likely because of the disconnections try the test socket and see if it becomes more stable

Re: connection issues

Not sure i'd count the constant disconnects as the trial/learning period.  I've been a DSL user for years, and (unfortunately) moved about a bit so semi familiar with that process.  This internet is not usable, and is having some serious issues.

Check out these stats from a tracert i did last night, its worth pointing out that is the only traffic on the hub at the time.  the 99ms to the hub itself is bizarre in itself but check out the rest.  I tried running the speedtest last night ( For first part check out this http://eternalrising.net/screenie1.png ), but when i did the reconnect with the different broadband username it went for the few hours to get a connection 😞

Re: connection issues

are you connected to the test socket as this will eliminate any noise problems caused by your internal wiring?
