We have problems with broadband speed for several weeks. We have phoned India many times, recieived and installed a new home hub - no change. India say they can see a speed of 6Mbps but the latest speed test shows we are getting a speed of 0.12Mbps.
The latest speed test shows:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.12 Mbps
Your DSL Connection Rate :6.21 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.14 Mbps
I have read on other forums that this may due to a stuck IP profile.
How do we get that cleared?
you do have a conenction speed of 6.21mb buit due to drops in connection or manual resets or a combination of both your profile is rock bottom at 0.14mb. if you now stay conencted 24/7 for 3/5 days then your profile will recover automatically to the correct value for your conenction speed
you profile is not stuck
Thank you for your prompt and specific reply! Very impressive...
Is there a way to do this without being connected 24/7 for 3-5 days? We are not often here continuously for that amount of time with a connected PC.
the pc does not need to be conenction it is the router that need to remain connected to the internet to show a stable conenction that is required for profile to change automatically
The router is always switched on and connected, so I don't understand how to resolve this, then.
What would you propose we do?
thanks a lot
welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
it is probable that your router is dropping connection when you are not there so in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem
ok, thank you
here are the answers to your questions - I appreciate the help.
Is there a way to stop the router dropping connection when we are not here?
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home? connected directly to the NTE5 master - this is the only phone socket in the home; we tried it to the test socket, and the broadband speed was unchanged (ie, bad)
quietline test 17070 option 2 - done - is it meant to give feedback? I just had a nice lady who kept saying "quietline test" and finally saying "thank you for using this BT facility" - no other feedback.

there is no feedback on quiet line - the idea being that you are listening for any line noise hiss/crackle - was line quiet apart from announcement
The logs from your router as dated January and are very old - can you find the same 2 lines but nearer today's date
