e-mail

I am having problems getting into my e-mail account is any work being done?

Is this anything to do with the BT Yahoo new mail which seems to have been in beta mode for ages?

If any work being done was planned it would have been nice to have been informed

Re: e-mail

Yes, there seem to have been a lot of authentication failures on and off for the last couple of weeks. No idea what is going on.

The mail client logs on successfully and collects mail, but a few minutes later it fails with an authentication error. A few minutes after that it works without changing anything and so on. This is the same with both Macs and PCs in our house.

Have also experienced problems logging on to web mail recently, getting username or password errors when I know I have entered them correctly. Its completely random and seems to occur when I am in no particular location.

Re: e-mail [failures to see BT server?]

Interesting to read these comments.   I have had a number of failures to log into my BT account over the past few days.   I can log into my second account with 12FreeUK which goes through the BT server and receive and send messages!   I use PegasusMail v4.51 and the BT Protocol Error message is [address hidden ]

[*] Connection established to 217.146.188.192
>> 0058 +OK AVG POP3 Proxy Server 8.5.401/8.5.449 [271.1.1/3669]
<< 0027 USER xxxxxxxxx@btinternet.com
>> 0024 +OK password required.
<< 0017 PASS XXXXXXXXXX

I have just tried three times and also sent a test message which appeared to be accepted and then when went to Selective mail DownLoad again lo and behold the system is working once more.

What is happening?   My exchange is Crowthorne, Berks.

Wed 01/06/2011 at 10amResolved Problem in the Healing area

I have just tried again and this time I can neither send or receive messages via BT.   The window that appears after a few seconds is

Then a Mail Delivery Failure message returned to PegasusMail as follows:

Network or Protocol Error message window appeared with:-

"From:    Mail Delivery System <>
    To:    Self
    Subject:    Mail Delivery Failure.
    Date sent:    Wed, 01 Jun 2011 16:35:32 +0100

Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following
reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail
relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:

   *** TCP/IP error while processing job ***
A network error has occurred while WinPMail attempted to send
your message. This error could be caused by many conditions,
   including the following:
     * The remote host may have gone down.
     * Your network may have been broken or gone down.
     * You may have a configuration problem in your WINSOCK.DLL.
     * If running on a SLIP line, you may have experienced a
timeout (increase the value in WinPMail's Network Config.
Dialog), or the phone line may have gone down or suffered
       from excessive line noise.
WinPMail will requeue your message and try again later."

[*] Connection established to 217.12.13.134
>> 0038 220 smtp816.mail.ukl.yahoo.com ESMTP
<< 0021 EHLO [192.168.1.64]
>> 0032 250-smtp816.mail.ukl.yahoo.com
>> 0032 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN XYMCOOKIE
>> 0016 250-PIPELINING

This is different from the previous message I gave earlier.   It was working about an hour ago after the previous failure - very odd.

Re: e-mail

The problem on the Status Page refers to web mail which is only part of the problem.

Only one of my @btinternet mailboxes is functioning at the moment, the other four are showing authentication errors; they were working fine this afternoon.

I'm aware that a number of other BT users are experiencing problems and not just local to me. I'm on Wokingham (0118) exchange with an Infinity connection and the connection is fine. It's just the mail that is being a pain.
