I hope someone out there can explain to me how BT works.
I have been corresponding with <residential.services@service.bt.com> but not really getting anywhere.
I have many emails from BT.
One says "It`s recommended that you don`t use the same password for multiple accounts"
Another says "You have to use the same password for your BT ID log in and your BT email."
These are contradictions concerning my BT ID account and my talk21 email account; does anyone know what is the real situation?
When I created a new BT email address in an attempt to get around this BT would not let me use it unless I signed up to an entity called Oath. The sign-up process means allowing many hundreds of entities, most of whom I do not recognise and have no intention of ever using, to access my computer and thereby compromise my security. I believe that would involve reading, understanding and accepting the Privacy Policy of Oath and their many hundreds of associates/partners. Many of those Policies are not even written in English. Another BT email says "yes you have to agree to Oath and no BT don't provide an English translation." So it seems to me that BT are requesting me to make an uninformed choice and allow my security to be compromised before they will let me use their email address.
Is that right? What am I misunderstanding?
Are BT interested? They keep sending silly emails claiming to be from a Nick Lane but sent from a noreply address, closing my complaints without any resolution. Is he a real person? What is his email address?

Frankly if you need to set up a new account, use Gmail - there is no need to use BTinternet. Also, the Oath rubbish doesn't apply if you use a mail client/app - though you still need to accept various T&Cs or stuff if you login to webmail for the first time using the new email. However to me, I still believe Oath/Yahoo and therefore BT are breaking the GDPR by having these all effectively opted in. Non UK companies have to abide by these rules if they affect UK customers.
I request that the moderators check this - I believe I have asked before, but can't recall the outcome,
I (and others) have said for a number of years that the BTID should be separate from the "main" BTMail password - not least due to a sync issue that has occurred from time to time.
Thanks for the reply.
At last, a sensible and helpful comment.
I'll try to use a Gmail address, but I do agree with all you say.
It would be nice if BT had the guts to acknowledge their apparent contradictory advice and security compromises, and say what is really the case, but I suppose a large telecom company can ride roughshod over us mere mortals!
If you had carried out a search of the forum you would have found this.

The issue is that the user still has to accept the information given on screen (pressing Done) and is NOT aware that this won't affect them. The user will surely assume that this applies to them. The notice should not be there at all.
I was replying to your comment " I request that the moderators check this - I believe I have asked before, but can't recall the outcome". not about the rights or wrongs of BT and Oath
But that is not what BT/Yahoo tell me when I try to use the new address.
Would BT care/dare to comment to clarify this?
would BT or Oath PLEASE answer this?

Is Andy_N saying that the online decisions/commitments I make are not what they say they are?

I'm not saying that as it happens, BT are - but only in a forum post of a couple of years ago. That is my issue - how is anyone supposed to know this?
