help required to get Talk21 e-mails via Outlook

Go to solution

Although not that new to using Microsoft I'm a bit of a newbie to Windows etc I have MS Office Professional 2010.

I have always managed to set my Talk 21 address up in Outlook and iPhone but I have to concede defeat after about 3 hours of trying. (mind you it's taken a few minutes to work out this forum)

Suggestions from anyone who has succesfully achieved this would be appreciated.

Sadie

Let us assume that your talk21 email address is aaa.bbb@talk21.com

When setting up outlook use

aaa.bbb.t21@btinternet.com as your email address and your username

Incoming server is mail.btinternet.com

Outgoing server is mail.btinternet.com

Tick my outging server requires authentication.

DO NOT tick Log on using Secure password authentication.

If the above does not slove your problem please give more details of what trouble you are experiencing.

Hi Sadie. Welcome to the forums.

If I may say so, you say you've set up your Talk21 email address via Outlook before, and now have Office 2010. The latest version of Outlook is perhaps slightly different to previous, but should be very similar.

Are you getting actual errors when setting up the account ? or trying to send/receive emails ?

I believe that the talk21 servers are still working, pop3 (for receiving) is in.talk21.com and smtp (for sending) is out.talk21.com@ - however if not then you will need to use the trick of adding .t21 at the end of the username, replace @talk21.com with @btinternet.com and use mail.btinternet.com for both servers.

The problem will be if you still want to use your talk21.com email address as the "From" address - you will need to go through address verification, but perhaps go through that later if required.

Your suggestion seems logical, however I have already tried this with little success.

I'm nothing if no persistant and it has finally worked.

Thank you. Now just need to bring folders over....

I'm having similar problems and have followed suggestions but keep getting the below Error.

send test e-mail message:  Outlook could not logon to the outgoing mail server (SMTP).  The problem could be the server name, your server may require authenticaian, or your server may not support SSL.  Verify authentication and SSL options under More Setting.

Any further suggestions?

Without disclosing any personal details (ie use a made up username eg aaa.bbb) can you please supply the following

1.  Version of Outlook you are using

2.  format of your email address

3. format of account name

3. POP3 server name

4. SMTP server name

5. whether you have ticked My outgoing server requires authentication

6. SMTP port

7. POP3 port.

Have you followed the suggestions in vofsanity2's  previous post ?
