here we go again...

OK so a while back I posted a question about the terrible upstream speed I get where I live, which Download was 15 ish and upload use dto sit around 0.8

So now, download is 10 and up is 0.4

Since Ive lost 5 mbps down a new fibre cabinet has appeared and im really struggling to get an answer or any further forward with BT or openreach to at least restore my previous speeds.

Attached is my router dsl stats and a pic of the dsl checker info.  Does anyone know if it is right with what my router is syncing at ?

Re: here we go again...

Hi there @Silent_Bobgrid

Just having a look at the DSL checker info you posted, that's a crazy FTTC speed.  Couple of idea's:

Are you in your Main/Master Socket? Anything apart from your router connected to it?  If you have a landline phone, check for any noise on the line (this will instantly affect any speeds).  With a phone (preferably corded) plugged into the main socket (if possible) dial 17070 and select Option 2.

With regards to the socket does it look similar to this

OR_Test_Socket.jpg

During the daytime, it maybe a good idea to access the "Test Socket" as shown and connect just router and filter to it, and see what speeds you get.  Bit let us know 1st what your setup is.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Re: here we go again...

Good evening, Im using the master socket and it has a filter in the faceplate, nothing else is attached. Ive replaced all the cables.  I get the same using test jack, tried that this morning.  17070 quiet line test has a slight buzz on it but whether that slight buzz is acceptable or not is a different matter...

@Silent_Bobgrid

thanks for that info, is the phone corded or cordless? Was it plugged into the test on it's own? Cordless phones sometimes "buzz", a corded phone shouldn't.

If it's corded, and it buzzes without the filter, I would suggest reporting it as a VOICE fault, and confirm you have used the "test socket". Do not mention Broadband when reporting the fault.

Re: here we go again...

Its an analogue butt phone. I work on pbx's so this isn't beyond me, ill try reporting a line fault tomorrow and see what they say.

Amazing thing is that dsl checker says fttp but they wont let me have it haha

Thanks for your input.

Does it look like this:

Note where it say's "on demand".

Just curious.

It doesn't say FTTP it says FTTP on Demand. This is a different product and only a few suppliers offer it. It is primarily a business product and I believe that BT has stopped offering it.
