Hi i am trying to get my hikvision to send notifications i have put the stmp setttings in that are on bt's site but the cctv system displays dns error when i try to send a test email has anyone come across this and what was the solution
Was there a tick box to enable authentication in the SMTP settings? It should be set to plain authentication.
hi there is only a tick box to enable server authentication but no options for plain ect
I guess it will probably be plain, have you ticked it?
Have you configured the rest of the SMTP settings as described here
yes its ticked and the settings are the same as the link you sent
Can you send ok using that email address with a client such as Thunderbird on your PC, to verify if the problem is with email or the DVR.
I'm assuming you are a BTbroadband customer or paying for Premium mail, if neither, SMTP access won't work.

Then the problem would appear to lie with the DVR. Have you tried using a Gmail address on the DVR?
Hi Yes and still the same i have emailed the tech team at hikvision and the said it was a problem with BT as we can access the cctv on line
They would. Did they elaborate as to what they thought the problem might be? Is there anywhere to configure DNS on the DVR? Is it set to auto to obtain DNS settings from the hub, can you set DNS manually? Set to 220.127.116.11 and 18.104.22.168 if manual setting possible.
