homehub 2 and edimax 7228APn problem

Hi All,

I have just bought an EDIMAX 7228APn to use as a range extender.

I have followed the edimax guide download that is specifically for HH3.

I have set the edimax ip to 192.168.1.53  (i have other stuff on 50,51,&52)

I set the default gateway to 192.168.1.254

I set the encryption to WPA2, not Mixed.

I've put in the HH2 wireless key

I've set it to Universal repeater mode and picked the BTHH device from the list of AP's.

i can connect to the Edimax both wirelessly and with a cable fine, but it refuses to allow a connection to the internet.

Anything I can try to figure out why the homehub won't let me access the net via the edimax?

Are there any settings I need to do on the homehub itself?

I am not sure about the Edimax, but maybe the instructions for the TP Link device may help. The config files will be no good. Was there any reason why you chose the Edimax?

Re: homehub 2 and edimax 7228APn problem

Hi Keith,

Reviews seemed to say it was 'easy' to set up and worked fine on homehubs...

There was some issue with encryption settings. The edimax apparently can't do mixed wpa2 and some documents suggested it has to be set to WEP, which is a bit odd.

Some posts on this site suggest that this has now been fixed and it can do WPA2. There is certainly an option to do it.

Re: homehub 2 and edimax 7228APn problem

I have always recommended setting the HH and the repeater to WPA only, on the TP link device. It has a status screen so you can see the AP status, and any devices connected to it.

Its very important that the wireless key matches the one on the HH, otherwise the receive side of the repeater will not be able to connect.

I'll turn off the encryption on everything and see if that goes.

Atleat I'll now if everything else is set ok.

Are you sure that you are not trying to use WDS, as that is not supported by the home hub?

This is the current setting.

I'm going to try no encryption next.

Re: homehub 2 and edimax 7228APn problem

Hi Keith,

Turning off all encryption allow it to work as expected. I can now access my wireless network from my workshop in the back garden.

I'll switch the encryption back on, WEP first then I'll try the WPA options.

Re: homehub 2 and edimax 7228APn problem

Definately some issue with WPA and WPA2 encryption.

It may be to do with the format of the wireless key. Edimax has two options, pass phrase or 64 char hex string.

I'm using the passphrase which is what the HH2 is using.

I don't quite understand why this is an issue as i can access both devices from my pc with WPA2, but for some reason the Edimax won't play ball with the HH2.

I know there were issues with this a year ago but Edimax fixed it and thier latest docs show WPA2 settings.
