I have recently bought a new Samsung A20e mobile. I previously had a Samsung 7s which worked fine with my home wifi. My laptop works fine with the wifi. The new phone however keeps disconnecting from the wifi. It will stay connected for maybe 24 hours, then for no apparent reason it disconnects, even when the phone is in the same room as the wifi router.
I have discussed this with Samsung and have carried out all the checks they recommended including a factory reset of the phone. I've rebooted the router. All to no avail, it keeps disconnecting. I have BT fibre broadband and the router is a BT Homehub4, about 9 years old. The broadband signal generally seems ok, it's fairly fast.
I don't understand where the problem is - is it the phone, is it the broadband connection or is it the router? Would a wifi booster help? Should I get a new router? I read that 'MAC filtering' can be a problem for wifi - does the Homehub4 have this? Or is it just a rubbish phone? Any advice welcome!
check your phone go to settings/connection/wifi/ 3 dots top right/advanced/ turn off switch to mobile - make sure turned off
Thanks. The switch to mobile setting is off. Unfortunately the problem is still there - I'm sitting literally next to the router and the wifi has just disconnected!
Does anyone have any further suggestions on this question please?
have you tried a factory reset of hub by pressing recessed button on back and holding 20/30 secs till lights flash?
remember turn of smart setup and split networks
Check Power Management mode, you might have power saving set too high
Thanks, I've done the factory reset of the Hub - we'll see what happens. I turned off smart setup as advised - do I need to turn it back on now? I didn't understand what you meant by 'and split networks'.
Thanks. The phone is on 'Optimised' power rather than Power Saving so I don't think that's the problem. As in my previous post I don't know whether to put smart setup back on on the hub(after the hub's factory reset) and what I should do about splitting channels. The phone has just disconnected from wifi again despite spending all night next to the router.
Smart setup is a pain In the nether regions, unfortunately it will have switched itself back on and a result of the factory reset. You need to switch it off again
You may not be able to split the 2.4 and 5GHz bands, it depends what hub you have. The Smart Hub 2 doesn't allow it.
Generic guide to splitting bands on other BT HomeHubs
Log on to the hub manager (192.168.1.254).

You should find the controls for splitting networks on the page that opens up
