openreach modem + independant router

Go to solution
I have spent hours try to get white openreach modem and netgear r8000 to talk with bt's help - no success. Keeps informing me no internet access although goes straight online with homehub 5 but this is not man enough to cope with streaming etc. Netgear say I need internet access before they can help. Ideas???? Suggestions.

Have you set username to homehub@btbroadband.com and password to BT on the Netgear?

Yes, I have followed the advice of BT IT but to no avail. I am even thinking of changing my ISP provider because I am so frustrated. I sent my first modem back as they said it was faulty and as mentioned homehub 5 sent but not man enough, so invested more money in both BT and netgear to find same problem exists

How are you connecting the netgear, there shouldn't be any problem?

Ethernet cable from modem to router. Have tried direct from modem to laptop without success. No internet access and goes off to find very slow BT openzone.

When you say the HH5 works ok, is that when it is connected directly to the phone line with the DSL lead or via the modem connected to its WAN port? Does the DSL LED come on on the modem? Which LAN port are you connecting to on the modem?

Connected directly to wall socket (SSFP). All 3 lights come on the modem including DSL LED. I connected via Port 1 from the router.

Does the HH5 work when you connect via the modem rather than directly. I.e SSFP > Modem dsl port Modem Lan1 port > HH5 WAN port
