I have just bought an unlocked openreach modem and the netgear r6250 i was hopeing it would be a simple plug the modem in and it will work but as yet the router reports no connection and when i plug the OR modem into my laptop via ethernet it says the eithernet has a self assigned ip and cannot connect to the internet.
I cannot connect to the modem interface to change anything but i can access the netgears interface which is on ip 10.0.0.1.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as if i have i have to put up with the HH5 for one more day i'm gonna scream.
Which modem?
Plug it into the PC (via LAN2) and assign the PC a static address of 192.168.1.100, then try and go to the modem interface
Thank you for the reply i think the modem and router were both set to the same ip so i logged into the openreach modem and changed its ip and its not all working ok.
thanks
Due to continuing problems with HH5, BT have just installed Openreach modem for me (ECI), and HH4. Curiously, this may have cured one of our problems but we would still like to revert to previous router (Draytek Vigor 2830) which has a WAN input labelled WAN2(Giga).
Does anyone out there know how to configure this router to connect to the Openreach modem? I'm not sure whether this connection is PPPoE, DHCP, or what - mainly because I don't have a clue what those acronyms actually mean!
It's PPPoE
Username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and the password is BT
Password is irrelevant - can be anything or nothing actually.
Thanks.
I feel that this has nearly sorted the problem. For some reason I still can't actually connect to the internet.
Not sure what to do next.
I've got a 'connection IP address' and a 'default gateway', but apparently no internet access. Am I missing something obvious?

Had my eci/r up and running for a few days now, after a bit of messing about, every thing seems alot more
