poor peak time speeds since beginning of october

I've been getting very poor speeds in the evening for the last couple of months. I've had an engineer visit and he moved my master socket and installed a new Home Hub. He also ran a series of tests and said that everything on my end was fine and that the problem must be with the port I am connected to in the exchange but BT wouldn't move me to a different port because they wanted to change my IP profile first. They did that and my speeds have been just as bad ever since but there doesn't seem to be any way of getting BT to do anything about it, they just keep marking my problems as resolved and when I ring up they go through the same useless troubleshooting steps time after time! Please help.

Re: poor peak time speeds since beginning of october

you have an 8mb connection with the correct profile for adslmax but your download speed is low for your profile.  from your comments this happens at night during peak times and is probably due to exchange congestion.  if you run btspeedtester during the day is the download speed nearer 5000/6000?

Re: poor peak time speeds since beginning of october

I'm not in during the week but when I had the engineer visit it was a Friday and the speed was about 5mb when he arrived at about 10:30 and 2mb when he left at about 11:30. I had a download running on the Saturday morning and at 8:30 AM it was running at about 7mb and the closer it got to 9:00 the slower it went until it was down to about 1.5mb. This has only happened during the last 2 months though, previously I would get 5-7mb at all times and I've been a BT broadband customer for years. 1-2mb in the evening isn't acceptable when you know you can get 7mb.

Just run the test again, still getting 1mb!

Really all you can do is wait for BT Wholesale to the fix to the virtual paths at your exchange

Re: poor peak time speeds since beginning of october

OK cheers, I guess I'll just have to wait it out then since BT have no competition in my exchange.
