poor speed and connection dropping again

i've been battling with slow speeds and connection for a long time now normley it ether fixes its self when the weather gets better or bt come out play with the line and it fixes the problem

its been 2 monthes now and i have had ether a 2.5mb or a 0.60 connection i have phoned bt and they drop my speed to stablise my line this dosnt work, right now if i do a bt speed test it says that my download speed is 1.5mb but all the other speedtesters start downloading and sit there at .50mb and pop up to 1.5 mb right at the end

my ip profile is now 1750 and bt are comming round for a home visit ,i dont know what to expect

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1417 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :2656 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1750 Kbps

Re: poor speed and connection dropping again

Hi you will just have to wait while the engineer visits and carries out tests and see what is then found

If you post the full stats from your router

For homehub – type 192.168.1.254 into your browser

Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right of the home page and scroll down to ADSL Settings and click on it

Click on More Details and then post the full results.

also post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/

or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

also you could try the hints given by poster RogerB in this link they may help http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217#M8397

Then someone here may be able to help and offer more advice.

Re: poor speed and connection dropping again

you could also consider changing to interleaving from fast path as this would stabilise your line as well that is unless you are an ardent gamer and concerned over latency

Re: poor speed and connection dropping again

Are you saying you have a poor throughput speed or a poor sync speed? Because for your line attenuation (distance from the exchange) you're getting quite a good speed.

Re: poor speed and connection dropping again

Looking at your line, you haven't reached the 2500 profile range yet, and I would imagine your line would be much more unstable on it.

What I think you would be best doing, is contacting the mods, http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 and asking them to request bt wholesale put your line onto a fixed 2mb service, as you have nothing to loose, you won't loose any speed, and infact your line should be more stable as when it drops the speed wouldn't be adpative, and also the latency would be faspath and your pings aka should be lower.  You would have more spare noise margin to allow for the evening dip you see.  Which inturn should also prove your line more stable.  I can't really see any reason why not to ? What do you think?
