'sent' and 'sent messages' folder in my BT account

Go to solution
I realised I have a problem today with the saving of my sent emails.  I've linked this back to my BT account whereby there is a 'sent' box with the side arrow icon (just underneath drafts) and also a folder which is called 'sent messages' in alphabetical order within my mailboxes.    Everything in the 'sent messages' is showing my name instead of the recipients name which isnt very helpful.  How can I merge these together and also get the recipients name to show instead of mine?

Any help would be appreciated.

It will be because you are using a mail app or client on a device which has a folder called 'Sent messages' for sent mail rather than 'Sent'. Somewhere in the settings will be the facility to map folders, you need to map Sent Messages to Sent. There will probably also be a setting for whether the folder displays the recipient or sender.

Thank you - I seem to have sorted most of the problems out but having problems with my iphone.  It keeps wanting to save to my iphone (under Advanced setting) as opposed to the server.  Is there a way I can change this?

I'm sure there is, but I'm an Android user rather than Apple. Hopefully somebody will be along with Apple expertise.

Just a thought, it sounds as though the account has been set up as POP3 rather than IMAP but if that was the case you wouldn't have had the previous problem with the Sent folders. Do you have mail apps on more than one device?

Just wanted to update anyone else who had the same problem and to thank Licquorice who was correct. On one of my devices the mailbox preference was set to send messages to 'sent message' folder which had somehow been created.  The solution is just to copy those emails, in my case over 2,300 to the correct 'sent' folder (the one which looks like a paper plane).  The recipient will automatically show correctly (as opposed to showing the senders name ie (my name)).  Also worth noting that it will take a considerable amount of time for those sent emails to download and show correctly in the new chosen mailbox on iphone as I guess it depends on how fast your server is.
