when am I going to get a decent speed on bt boradband.
336kbs, wow!
How many more times can I join my router to the test socket and expect a miracle cure?
I have spent many hours moving router to test socket.
Yes I only usually get 750kbs.
Wait 3 to 10 days and it should settle down.
Well there are 365 days in the year and my router is normally on 24/7, so why does the speed drop.
My equipment is the same, my house has not moved any further from the exchange (well I have not noticed it), so what has changed?
I am now hanging the white flag out and thinking very much of moving from BT, BUT all broadband providers are the same, whenever you call all you get is "can you plug into the test socket". Well no I cannot as it does not make one bit of diffrence. Come on throw the scripts away and actually get somebody to have a look in the green boxes that litter our streets and perhaps even open the door to the exchange and have a look in there.
That is my rant over. I am just fed up and everyone else is on this forum who has slow speeds and posted there stats and stood on one leg whilst whistling the national anthem to see if that speeds their broadband up.
Tanks for your time and I hope that someone will just read this and think, "is there a problem"?
You could post your router stats up there might be some ideas,
To post the full stats from your router
For homehub - 192.168.1.254
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right
Click on More Details and then post the results.
Also run Run Bt speed tester and post the results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
Also enter your down Attenuation and enter it here http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php . Distance plays a huge part in broadband.
The site also is good explaining broadband in general.
Download speed achieved during the test was - 318 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :544 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 350 Kbps
Type Interleave Path
Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 544Kb 448Kb
Noise Margin 8 12
Output power(dBm) 125 152
Attenuation(dB) 73 31
this is what I am getting, but as I ssay I have been getting 750kbs and at the leat 512kbs.
Hi with your line attenuation you are getting about the maximum speed you will get I am sorry to say and the only way to reduce attenuation is not a cheap option it is move nearer the exchange this unfortunately is not a bt problem or any other providers come to that just in your case the laws of physics has intervened and you are on the distance limit for broadband your line length is approx 5.3km and as the kitz checker says 0 speed is available
Thanks for reply, but up until the last week my speed was 512 and above, so what I cannot get my head round is why.
I have had BT for 2 years now and it has only just dropped to this speed.
You can see my frustration.
A miracle
Came home from work today and:
Down Up
Rate: 928 kbs 448 kbs
Max Rate: 928 kbs 616 kbs
Noise Margin: 4.0 dB 11.0 dB
Attenuation: 63.0 dB 31.5 dB
Output Power: 15.7 dBm 12.3 dBm
Protocol: G.DMT Annex A
Channel: Interleaved
DSLAM Vendor Information Country: {46336} Vendor: {TSTC} Specific: {0 }
ATM PVC: 0/38
Rate Cap: 928 kbs
Now getting 768kbs
Again how has this happened?
Although I am happy now I am back to where I was.
Did not even have to move house
with the drop in attenuation from 73 to 63 it looks like you have moved home or moved the exchange closer
thanks for that but that is what I was recieving from the router stats.
So how can it happen?
But I am not going to waste anymore of my life thinking about it.
I came on here asking for help as I am sick of the scripts.
Look at todays BT tester results

great - well I just hope it stays like that with no resets
don't why the 10 drop in attenuation
