but its  different with a item plugged into a wall socket even thou it may blow the fuse in the plug but because of the heat generated could cause a fire in the component or plug.


The fuse in the plug should be suitably sized to the load drawn by the unit. I'd be surprised if it was anything more than a 3A fuse.

 

Fire risk is minimal, and is actually greater for fridges etc.
