upgraded on the 28th- now broadband drops when Phone rings

A letter was send informing us there would be slight disruption on the 28th while they did some upgrades at the exchange.

We where getting just shy of 1 meg before but now get just under 2 meg which means the speed has doubled great however the Internet now discconects everytime the telephone is used, Highly fraustrating when playiing online games.

The letter says the internet may drop during the 10 day stabalisation period, but it it normal for it to drop everytime the phone rings and will it stop doing this soon!? Also I am interested to know what was changed, the exchage is the STONEHOUSE exchange.

I have tried a different ADSL filter.

Re: upgraded on the 28th- now broadband drops when Phone rings

Hi Welcome to the forums

The upograde  you had done at your exchange  would have been an upgrade  from the old  ADSL MAX  SERVICE(up to 8mb ) to the new ADSL2+ SERVICE  (up to 20mb service)  restarts are normal during the first 10 days  however not when the phone rings however  we can look into that  once we have the details below

Here are some help pages done by CL Keith http://forumhelp.dyndns.org/speed/Speed.html

also post your full hub stats by entering 192.168.1.254 into your web browser address bar and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1

Can you also post the full results from BT Speedtest speedtester.bt.com

Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Re: upgraded on the 28th- now broadband drops when Phone rings

Hi could you please run the FULL BT speed test not the BETA one

Your connection looks good for such a long line

you may be able to improve your connection further by trying what is posted in this link http://www.filesaveas.com/jarviser/bellwirenutshell.html

Could you also please try connecting to the test socket as shown in the picture so we can see any possible internal wiring problems

Re: upgraded on the 28th- now broadband drops when Phone rings

I can't run the full test as I uninstalled java recently on this machine...  I will do it on another computer later.

The master if the only telephone socket in the house, (it looks quite old tho) I will try plugging into the master to see if it makes a difference, and remove the bell wire if there is any.

Re: upgraded on the 28th- now broadband drops when Phone rings

Well I have not changed anything, and it don't seem to drop when the phone is used anymore. (at least not the last few times) so prehapse its resolved itself

it says its been steady connected for 16 hours, although just now the noice margin dropped to like 0.1 on the down caucing the internet to slow to a snail pace for about 15 mins, I was about to reboot the router when it suddenly came back to life, I take it thats normal in the days after an upgrade? Althought it might be weather, thunderstorms nearby.

I am impressed by the speed. I am many miles from Stonehouse itself (where the exchange is) I will post back and mark as solved in a few days time should everything stay the way it is.

Re: upgraded on the 28th- now broadband drops when Phone rings

you missed of the conenction time and connection speed from your stats.

your power output looks very low as does your noise margin.  hope your router can maintain connection when noise margin is already down to 1.6db
