wifi extenders

Hi, i have BT internet which is running ok....but my son uses Talktalk ( no comment !!), as his wifi signal in his  lounge is poor i purchased the BT mini connector kit for him .

Rigged it up with ethernet cables as per the info  to his smart tv , which gave a good signal, but when he tries to use the wifi from the extender on his ipad ,there is no  other network connections displayed on his wifi settings  only his normal Talktalk router number, how can he connect an ipad to it when it does not show up in "Other Networks" or am i missing something simples , also should there be a password for the extender should anything pop up on "Other Networks " as i recall you have on other brands of extenders,TP-Link ,etc ?

Am not too tech savvy so apologies if anything is obvious that i have not understood about the mini connectors.🤔

They are advertised as being ok for other ISP routers/Modems.

The BT Mini Connectors do not transmit Wireless.

They are mainly used for BT YouView.

You could always plug in a wireless access point into one of the Ethernet ports on the mini connector, that would solve the problem and avoid you having to change anything.

Something like the TP Link WA801ND, cost about £20 and would give wifi.

Ahhh, that sounds a good idea Keith, just a thought ,he has a spare router would that maybe do the same job or is the W/A/Point option the best bet ?

You could use a spare router as a wireless access point, but I would not know what settings to use, and it will not be as good as a proper wifi access point.

The TP Link one has things like MAC filtering, and the ability to setup more than one SSID, so a separate SSID could be configured if he has any visitors, That would save giving out the password for the main router or the first SSID of the wireless access point.
