I'm not sure what the problem is, but as I have stated on multiple occasions it isn't universal. I have no problem printing to a 2.4Ghz connected printer from a 5Ghz connected laptop with the firmware. So not convinced there are thousands of people with the problem.
Hi @licquorice - The IP traffic should ideally route between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands without fail. But from what I've seen there is a definite issue (regardless of the device, be it Apple or Android), we see it happening particularly between the mobile devices and the Sonos speaker system and other various 2.4GHz band devices. Managed to perform a test where I was able to force the use of the 5GHz band and then the 2.4GHz band and it exposed this issue. I honestly thought to start with it was just me, but seeing this forum made me know otherwise.
Thing is, this thread has taken off again since the update, but problems existed well before it was rolled out. Earlier issues are still in the process of investigation. I imagine the update was a response to the issues previously raised over recent months. Let’s hope it’s high priority and a solution is found soon.
I am not disputing there is an issue, I am just saying it is not a universal problem of communication between bands, it is more complex and needs full investigation.
@licquorice - Sorry..... I didn't want you to think I was coming down on or dismissing your response in any way. That was not my intention. I just wanted to explain what I've experienced so far, and I completely agree with you that an investigation is most certainly needed. What's more, we're getting it. 👍 😃 Private messages have gone out so far from BT. Am eager to see what happens and am happy to offer whatever info I can towards what may hopefully be a solution. Who knows.... Maybe your working environment could possibly have some vital info towards it. 🙂
For the record, I've been having the same problems and have been tearing my hair out, so I'm glad I've found this thread.
I have a 3-year old Android Nokia 8 phone (connected to my Smart Hub 2 on the 5 GHz band) quite happily communicating with my Sonos One speaker (on the 2.4 GHz band).
However, I purchased a new iPhone 11 at the beginning of last week (which also is connected on the 5 GHz band), and that adamantly refuses to talk to the Sonos speaker.
The only way to get the iPhone and Sonos to communicate reliably is to turn-off the 5 GHz band on my Smart Hub 2 - which is a short term workaround until the kids start streaming lots of video content, at which point the whole house slows down...
Looking forward to further updates on this issue.
Glad I found this thread and the problem is widespread and not just with our setup.
Sonos speakers and Epson printer, both on 2.4ghz fail to be able to communicate with IOS devices on 5ghz.
My workaround is to disable the 5ghz network.
Firmware: v0.26.03.01286-BT (updated 18 April 2021)
I now have issues similar to others.
My iPhone won’t print by Wi-fi to my Epson printer.
My iPad Pro will connect.
My Mac mini won’t print anything either.
it’s all to do with devices running on 2.4GHZ will not connect to devices running on 5GHZ.
