BT Smart Hub 2 and Port Forwarding

Hi there, I've been trying to get port forwarding working on my new Smart Hub 2. Along with setting up DDNS, which works happily by showing the hubs home page if I try accessing via the external URL, I've also followed the instructions - http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8790/~/how-do-i-set-up-port-forwarding-on-my-bt-hub%3... but can't seem to get through to the webserver that I'm running.

The router config looks like this - Screenshot 2019-01-03 at 13.56.51.png

I'm completely ready for the answer to this being that I've not read the manual correctly or not even ticked the right box.

I did have all this running on my old BT router, not that that should give me any sort of illusion of knowing what I am doing.

Many thanks in advance,

'bub

Re: BT Smart Hub 2 and Port Forwarding

Welcome to this user forum.

I cannot give any specific advice for this home hub, however. if you want to test any of the home hubs from the Internet, you have to do it from a different connection, like mobile data, otherwise it will simply display the home hub page, as you have already discovered Smiley Wink

I do not use a home hub, but I would not expect the firmware to be much different between this new home hub, and the older ones, so the process you used last time, should work.

If you are running a webserver on port 80, and that port is forwarded, then you should see the webserver index page if you view it from another connection.

I used to remote manage a HH6, and this is a sample screen taken from it, showing port forwarding.

OMG! sage advice sir, thank you very much. The not so subtle difference with the new hub and the old was I was able to access the webserver from the same connection, or locally. Thank you for your quick response!

Most of the home hubs do not support NAT Loopback, and I expect this one is the same, so any remote access testing has to be done from a totally separate Internet connection.
