BT black disc WiFi extender/mesh. Can they be used if you purchase separately?

BT black disc WiFi extender/mesh.

Can they be used if you purchase separately?

Or are they subscription based? 

I'm getting fibre 900 and currently use Google WiFi mesh but understand that it doesn't work with the smart hub 2.

I've seen the bt WiFi discs being sold recently and wondered if I could buy one and use it even though I'm not paying for the bt package that includes them. 

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

You can but the Black Discs seperately to work with the Smart Hub 2. I've bought 2 and I don't subscribe to the Halo 2 package which lends them to you.
