Do you need caller ID to be operative for the call guardian to work on BT4600? Its on a normal land line no broadband. The people on the contact list (familey etc) used to come through straight away and other were intercepted and had to provide a name. Now all the calls are being intercepted. Its my elderly mothers phone and she getting worried about it.

You do need caller ID enabled. Its a function of the landline not broadband, and your landline service provider should be able to supply it. It may have stopped working in this case.
If you are with BT Retail, then its free, but you start a new 12 month line rental contract.
Caller Display check it's switched on by entering the code * # 234 #. If it's active you'll get the message Caller identity will be displayed
