I have a BT8600 handset with call blocker, purchased 2016. For the last few months, i am experiencing real problems with incoming calls in that the handset will ring, but when i pick up the handset, the incoming call is disconnected. It then shows on the screen as a missed call. Answer phone is not switched on. I wondered if it was a problem with the batteries but can no way of accessing the battery compartment
See here.
I have read the solution - but I cannot get the back off the phone - even looking at the illustration (and the user manual), the back will NOT lift off. There is no groove as such, apart from where the handset connects to the base. I have made numerous attempts and nothing will allow me to separate the back bit. Guess I will just have to purchase a new handset - blooming technology!
Strange. It might be worth calling the helpline 0800 145 6789.
Is this any help, I think its for that phone, as someone else asked about it?
I have four BT8600 handsets which needed new batteries. The first one was a real pain but, gritting teeth and saying a silent prayer that I wasn’t damaging the thing, I managed to “encourage” the handset to come apart. By the time I needed to do the fourth handset, it was easy. They really aren’t well-designed to come apart easily.
There is NO groove on my handset - its as smooth as a baby's bottom! Believe me, I have tried!

Have you tried gripping it with something like a rubber glove, and pushing it up from the bottom with both thumbs?
What about the helpline? Or one of these?
On the base of the hand set, where it plugs into the charger, there is a slot about 8 or 9cm long into which a broad-bladed screwdriver can be carefully inserted and twisted to separate the two halves of the handset.
