Cut off during calls

My father has bought twin BT big button 4000 cordless phones and is using them on the Sky network.  He finds that calls are regularly cutting off during conversations on both incoming and outgoing calls.  His main cordless phone plugs into the back of a  personal alarm system unit (Chubb) which then connects to the sky system via a filter along with his broadband.  Can anyone hazard a guess as to why the calls are cutting off and if there is a way of remedying this.  He does not have this problem with  a regular landline phone.  Thanks.

Re: Cut off during calls

If its wired via an alarm system, then its quite possible the alarm system is making test calls to check that its working. That would disconnect any phone which is connected via the alarm unit as that would take priority. A cordless phone would be more likely to disconnect once it loses the voltage from the exchange.

Its possible the alarm unit is checking to see if the line is in use, and that process is causing a drop in voltage which is disconnecting the phone base unit.

Just in case its an issue with the Sky exchange equipment, have you asked on the Sky User Forum?

Re: Cut off during calls

Thanks for your reply.  Do you know how often the alarm system would check if a line is in use or make test calls on the line?

You would have to ask the alarm provider.
