Hi, I can't deregister the faulty handset from the base and I can't register my new handset until the faulty one has been deregistered? Help!

After a lot of head scratching I tried one of the other working handsets and I was able to deregister the faulty handset from there.
The new handset had problems registering with the main base, but after a few hours I tried pressing the find button on the base unit until the blue button was flashing (registering mode not obvious in the instructions) and then registered the handset, phew!!
