Smart Hub 2 only want 2.4GHZ network on the discs 5GHZ

Go to solution

Im trying to connect a smart light bulb to my home network its in an area that the disc is boosting the wifi.

Im informed that the smart bulb requires 2.4GHZ

The disc is giving out 5GHZ

Smart Hub 2, Ive turned off 5GHZ network. (As its a smart hub 2I cant split the network)

Ive removed the discs from the Hub Manager but when I reconnect them they show 5GHZ

Do I need to factory reset the discs and attempt to add them again hopefully under 2.4 GHZ WPS .

Please help.

Thanks

Ian

Hi @skippyinspace

It should save the settings across the entire network. It wouldn’t matter if they were removed from Hub Manager.

Have you tried a reboot of the disks after changing the settings?

Or connecting the smart device to the router with the disks off; and then put it in its new location.

Thanks

have had the discs, disconnected  for 12 hours ie unplugged from the wall, but when plugged back in they show 5GHZ through the hub manager and what I had changed he disc name to.

Have just done a factory reset on one of the discs but at the moment but doing a wps connection from the hub manager it doesnt connect to the 2.4GHz

Im on the Phone to BT Tech Support at the moment and they are saying that Smart Hub 2 Discs automatically connect to the the best 2.4 or 5 ghz network for coverage,

Being told that I cant have the discs exclusively on a 2.4GHZ setting

Hi @skippyinspace

Sorry I am confused. The Disc gives out both 5GHz and 2.4GHz so your smart bulb should connect to the 2.4GHz band. For example looking at my Disc I have 6 devices connected. 4 devices are using 5GHz and 2 devices are using 2.4GHz (they only connect using 2.4GHz).

If your smart bulbs are not connecting have you tried turning off Smart Setup?

Edit: Sorry, I see you are sorted.

@VeteranISPUser

Yes, this may be the case but while the OP does not mention what smart device it is; I know with mine they connect to the Wi-Fi my phone is connected to.

If this is the 5Ghz band; they assume this SSID is 5Ghz only.
