Smart hub + disc connection problems

I have a smart hub and a single disc, which I assume is acting as a wireless extender and which is located upstairs. Does anyone know why my devices connect to this disc instead of the hub which is located in the same room as them? If I use the Bt app to interrogate my network it shows, if I’m on the ground floor, that the hub has an excellent signal strength but the disc is only shown as having a weak signal but with all my devices connected to it.
