Does anybody know what the 'D' denotes on some of the items listed in the Network pane of the Hub Manager (as shown in image). Thanks for any tips.

That was for the hub 5, I have no idea what it means for the smart hub but it isn't DHCP.
That device has a static address set on the device itself.

In my device list I have DHCP devices with and without a 'D', and static addressed devices with and without a 'D' !!!
That sounds like a good possibility and stacks up with what I'm seeing. Although why 'D' is anybody's guess.

I have guessed in the past that D = Dual Stack. Probably wrong.
