Whole Home Discs loss connection "Debug" message in log

Hi, I keep having issues in dropping connection with my Whole Home Discs lately. up to twice a week sometimes.

I checked the log, it seems like there are a bunch of "debug" messages before or around the time I found the connection drop.

I had to restart my Whole Home WiFi system via the web GUI every time (via a wired connected device, both to the modem router)

I have changed ISP to TalkTalk FTTP 500M fibre plan back in Aug, but this only started happening in the last month or so.

Below is a snippet of the log before I manually trigger a restart. Can anyone shed some light on this is a problem with my router? or something to do with the Whole Home disc(s)?

I have also updated my FW from v1.02.12 build02 to v1.02.13 build07 AFTER  this restart, hoping to improve the recent hiccups in connection.

Any suggestion is welcome!

Re: Whole Home Discs loss connection "Debug" message in log

Hi @jw0ng, sorry that you're having to reboot the discs as they keep losing the connection. Give the Whole Home Wifi Product Helpdesk a call as they'll be best placed to help you with this.

cheers

John

Re: Whole Home Discs loss connection "Debug" message in log

Thanks for coming back.

I have sent them an email with the log snippet above.

Just wondering, in the community, can someone enlighten me, in the debug messages above, is that my router? or is the BT Whole Home main disc unable to reach the satellite discs? or something else?

Re: Whole Home Discs loss connection "Debug" message in log

Just got the reply from the support team, asking me to try and turn off the "Legacy Steering".

Finger crossed hope this will be able solve the issue.

Does anyone know what kind of devices will this affect? Like how old a device will this be affected?

Re: Whole Home Discs loss connection "Debug" message in log

After turning it off, it has been stable for a few weeks. But then revert back to how this has been - dropping connection between satellite discs without warning and apparent reason. The main disc remains connected to the internet and I was able to login to web portal to trigger a restart of it. Then all connection resumed. But this could happen as many as every few hours... Very annoying!!

Did you get anywhere sorting this?

Re: Whole Home Discs loss connection "Debug" message in log

Ya, sort of.

still not sure what had caused that, but had to reset the whole system.

contacted BT support and they gave me a different set to try, still have the same problem when configured it to use my old SSID and pw

Eventually, I had to reset the Whole Home system and change my wifi SSID and password to something I have never used before. Then I started to reconnect my devices one by one and keep on monitoring.

Seems like sorted itself out.  To make sure it won’t cause me more issues, I sort of threw money to the problem by upgrading the Whole Home system to the WiFi 6 black version (more like an excuse to upgrade for me 😅).

Seems stable now. But it was a pain at the back side for over 2-3 months trying to diagnose what went wrong. And I still don’t know what had caused that!
