Re: Will Smart Hub get a firmware update for WPA3?

They're pretty stupid if they can't at least instantly see that WPA3 would turn this joke Wi-Fi sharing over unencrypted password free BT-Wi-Fi SSIDs in to something that's actually reasonably safe to use.

It is not a case of being stupid!

The Wi-FI Alliance hasn’t said anything about existing devices having to receive  WPA3. It is thought unlikely that devices will receive software or firmware updates to support WPA3.

Device manufacturers could theoretically create software updates that add these features to existing routers and other Wi-Fi devices, but they would have to apply  for and receive WPA3 certification for their existing hardware before rolling out the update.

It will no doubt be easier to start from scratch and as a result most manufacturers will likely spend their resources on developing new hardware devices instead.

BT and other ISPs will probably just bring out their next generation router which will have WPA3 included along with WPA2 to give legacy support for the millions of devices that can not support WPA3.

As has already been pointed out, it is not compulsory that you use BTWifi and if you do you and feel it is not secure enough you should use a VPN.

And I guess it's not compulsary that BT try and compete properly in the market place rather than rely on consumer reluctance to switch to keep their position.

... and what has that to do with the OP's question?

If you are not happy with BT, move.
