We have been satisfactorily using a BT Essential Phone Quad-Handset cordless system for some years. Recently one handset (item code 090660) ceased to function fully. It would ring on incoming calls, but no voice could be heard when picked up. It would not dial-out either. All other handsets and the wired phone continued to function OK.
The cure seemed to be to simply replace the faulty handset. I ordered a new one which arrived quite promptly. I read the instructions for registering it, which explained that if the Quad system already has 4 handsets registered, one will need to be unregistered to allow the new one to be registered. Alas, the old handset is so faulty that it does not allow me to access the menu where I could unregistered it. I notice that the display is continually flashing a small tick symbol at the top (as shown on the menu button).
How can I unregister the old faulty handset? I wonder if the fault is in the buttons - maybe the menu button is stuck on? Happy to dismantle the old handset to get at the button matrix if that leads to a solution.
Any suggestions welcome.

Solved! Go to Solution.
You should be able to deregister a handset from any other handset.
See P.50/51 of the manual.
Thanks for this solution. My problem now solved using the instructions to which you referred me.
