Suspicious forwarding message

For several days now, every time I open my BT mailbox on my desktop I get the message 'Your auto-forwarding setting has been enabled or changed. Emails are forwarding to: *********@******. To review or change this setting go to: Settings>Mail>Auto-forward'.  The first time I got the message I turned off the auto-forwarding (which I hadn't turned on) but I keep getting the message. This coincides with my mail app stopping sending or receiving messages. Any idea what's going on? Thank you.

Re: Suspicious forwarding message

Please delete the email address from your post, it is against forum rules.

It seems very much if your account has been hacked. I recommend changing your email password and to be on the safe side, any other passwords you have.

Re: Suspicious forwarding message

Make sure that forwarder is removed again, as well, and check your password recovery settings are still correct.

Re: Suspicious forwarding message

Thank you to WSH and to licquorice - and to the moderator who anonymised my post. I had a long conversation with someone at BT about this on Friday, in the course of which I changed my password several times, but they couldn't fix it so they raised a 'Complaint' which is still open. I'll report back if and when it's resolved. I don't know how to 'check your password recovery settings are still correct' though?

Re: Suspicious forwarding message

I meant any contact information associated with the account, mobile number etc.  although I don't think BT use two factor sent to a mobile anyway.

Re: Suspicious forwarding message

Fyi BT has resolved this now but without telling me what the underlying problem was.
