2nd router started disconnecting.

Go to solution
Hi we was issued a second router from bt because the 1st router was disconnecting around 20 times a day. at first the connection was good for 1 week but now the disconnections have returned and I’m now back in the same position. I don’t know if it’s a fault with the smart hub 6s or my connection to the local cab but this is seriously the worst connection we’ve ever had.

Is there any noise on your phone calls? Dial 17070 and select option 2, there should be no noise between the announcements.

sounds more like a line problems than hub especially as it happens to 2 different hubs

are you using the test socket with a filter to see if that helps by eliminating your internal wiring and the master faceplate as causing problems

What does your master socket look like?

Master socket with one socket

Or

Master socket with two sockets

That is old. Provided that is the only socket in the house, and you have no extension wiring, then that is as good as the test socket.

If you have extension wiring, then that can be the cause of disconnects, even if there is no socket or phone on the end.

Then you probably have "star" wiring, where all the extensions are teed into a terminal block.

Star wiring will have an adverse effect on connection speed and reliability.

They may possibly be connected at the back of the master socket, but without removing the cover, its not going to be possible to tell.

You can ask BT for an Engineer Home Improvement visit, but its not free.

They would fit a new filtered socket, but would  disconnect all of the extension wiring.
