Re: BT FTTC Cabinet - ECI

Go to solution

Hmm, as the HH5 is free when upgrading - I will test it out before getting a new one. But the fact is I want good strong WiFi signal all over the house and a bit more control over the router than just a couple of simple options and the HH5 from what I read doesn't supply a good ranging signal.

Re: BT FTTC Cabinet - ECI

forgot to ask before hehe

How long do you think it will take to finish the works?

Current Stage:

  • Links between PCP and the new cabinet have been installed today
  • From what I know fibre isn't pulled in yet to the cab
  • Power is connected to the cabinet
  • Cards (DSLAM) have been installed - 4 of them (Does it mean 256 customers?)

If that is just your cabinet being installed then it is more likely to be months than weeks

4 cards = 256 customers served. Listen out for the fans, once they are turned on it isn't long after that the cab goes live.

Each card (Assuming OR use the maximum density) on an ECI DSLAM serves 64 customer ports, so yes - 256 slots for customers.

It completely depends on the area and what has been done already.

It also depends on whether your cabinet is one of the first in the area being deployed - If it is then OR/BT Wholesale also have the job of installing the additional equipment in the exchange for the cabinet backhauls and may also need to install new equipment for the entire exchange's backhaul which isn't cheap and can take a while to install.

I'd say months to be honest. There can be blockages in very old ducts which can halt fibre blowing until they are cleared.etc.

Re: BT FTTC Cabinet - ECI

Sorry to crash in!

Also have seen a new cabinet go up in the village two weeks ago.   Currently on an at best 3Mbps connection and being about 250m from the cabinet as the crow flies (so probably 400 by BT wire) and the thought of getting (gulp) poosibly 30/40 Mbps, I started to get really excited!

The BT/Openreach "coming soon" list shows Dec 14 as the date - or does that not mean being able to get the benefits this year?

Cold shower time?

400 mts cable length will give you 25-30Mbps. Still better than 3Mbps.

Re: BT FTTC Cabinet - ECI

BT keeps saying that the cabinet will go live for orders before Christmas.
