BT FTTC connection constant re-syncing

Go to solution

I have an Huawei HG612 modem and I have my Billion 7800DXL router connected to it. I also use a Raspberry Pi to log stats from the modem and something isn't right with my line from the cabinet  approx < 500m away. Historically a tree in my neighbours garden wore through the telephone wires and my ADSL2 at the time died. This was fixed but the underlying issue of the branches wasn't corrected so it would only be a matter of time before the issue came to light again when the branches grew. My BT broad band hasn't been good for a while now, was supposed to be fixed a few months back. It is constantly re-syncing with a retrain: code of 2. In the past few days it has been very annoying with constant lost of internet every few hours or less. I log my external IP address also and this is constantly changing after every re-sync. In the last day it has re-synced with a new IP address see list :-

( Note: before these issues the connection was rock solid for months at a time but lately has been re-syncing randomly, only ever getting worse and more frequent ). Also note I have tried a couple of spare Huawei HG612 modems I have and they all display this re-syncing behaviour , which lead me to the conclusion that the issue is the line or cabinet equipment. ) Thank-you Jim

Hi @jinky123,

Welcome back to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your connection.

I understand you are using a third-party hub put would you be able to post some sort of hub stats which would show the speeds you are getting and connection uptime etc?

Matt

Re: BT FTTC connection constant re-syncing

Have you used the test socket with filter to eliminate your master faceplate and internal wiring.  I assume you have but didn't say

certainly looks like tree/line problem as before

Yes tested with faceplate off and modem plugged into filter plugged into the master socket. Modem has now finally disconnected and I have no broadband now. I'm using my mobile phone data connection to answer your question. Regards

Jim

If you have no dial tone then report a phone fault to 151

There is a dial tone but no broadband connection. Quiet line test seems quiet as well. As I type this the Broadband has come back again.

If you have a dial  tone and no noise on your line then not the tree rubbing the cable problem

Re: BT FTTC connection constant re-syncing

Ok but why would my  modem be constantly  re-syncing and broadband be coming and going and the retrain reason be 2, this is on the master socket with faceplate removed and a filter installed. There is something wrong either with line or cabinet equipment and I can't fix that. Note also I have tried another HG612 and an ECI  modem and it's the same symptoms of broadband  going away and then eventually re-syncing and then going away again.

My broadband has never really been right since it failed last time a few month back and was supposedly fixed, I just knew something wasn't right with all the random IP address changes which gradually got worse until the past few days where it's virtually unusable. So what do I do?

Re: BT FTTC connection constant re-syncing

Well it gets worse , remember I have been at 45Mbps Down/ 13Mbps Up approx since I was connected to the new cabinet No9 years ago. Never had a problem now this is the latest data from the BT Wholesale website for my landline, see below.

Download speed achieved during the test was - 9.54 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds
is 7.39 Mbps-10.55 Mbps .
 Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 10.55 Mbps

Also my last ticket for the issue is here https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Fibre-broadband/Internet-goes-away-frequently/m-p/1954743#M290711 you can see its the same issue again. It began working again last time after the OpenReach engineers tinkered with stuff at the cabinet. So please get this fixed, I have spent hours gathering information both last time and now for this same problem. It isn't being fixed properly and I am still paying £60  quid a month for a connection that isn't working. As you can imagine it is inconvienient not having a connection, I would love to get this fixed.

Picture below (ignore scaling 500k is 50Mbps) is the start of the issue back at the end of May and you can see that the speed was a lot more than the 10Mbps I am capped at now.
