You will be getting FTTP so some drilling will be necessary. There will be a wall mounted ONT with battery back-up fitted in your home so consider where you want it to be before the engineer arrives.

Thanks for your help. I currently get the internet with Talk Talk through the BT line master socket and it works very well the internet - netflix, etc . Is there any benefit of moving to the new system with BT ?

There are plenty  of benefits of moving to FTTP. No possibility of crosstalk slowing your internet down, speeds up to 330Mbps and higher in the future. Pure fibre is the best available connection.

It's interesting that your property has been enabled for FTTP given that it already has reasonable FTTC (50/10) speeds available.  Moving from FTTC 50/10 to FTTP 50/10 will give you a slightly faster download speed and lower latency so websites may load slightly quicker but you will only really benefit by moving to the more expensive FTTP packages which offer much higher download and upload speeds.

My FTTP installation used newer connectorised fibre cable which went straight through the outside wall - there is no outside box.  Bear in mind that you will have two boxes - an ONT (which is the optical modem) and a BT HomeHub which connects to the ONT so you will require two power sockets where the cable comes in.  The fibre cable can be run to a different place to your current master socket so you may wish to have it installed in a different room.

FTTP is a no-brainer, you are getting a Rolls Royce at Ford prices.
