BT Infinity won't connect to pcspecialist forum, but BTWiFi will. DNS issue or something else?

While away from home I successfully browsed - on my Android 7 tablet -  the pcspecialist site, and their forum https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/forum.phphttps://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/forum.php.

On my return home I tried to do the same. Core site - no problem. Forum - error 404. I tried last night, in different browsers and then sent an email.  I tried again on two occasions this morning, before and after a response.

I'm on BT (infinity 2) at home, and I was on BT (unknown in holiday cottage) a couple of days ago when I could access it.

I contacted the site who replied asking if I was on BT, because they have had a few complaints about members being unable to reach the forum and the only commonality is that they are on BT Internet!

Here at home I have now tried using the BTWiFi connection instead, and that gets through to the forum immediately. If I switch back to the private WiFi connection and refresh the page it immediately jumps to 404.

The core site works perfectly. So why is this happening?

Further thoughts! Looking at the links above, the forum is https. However if I try to access it without the s, it works. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/forum.php .

From there I can log in, which takes me to the https forum pages OK.

Having got through, it now seems to work even if I log out and try to reach it again, whichever browser I try.

Most strange.

Any help would be appreciated.

Having got through once, I now have no problem on my tablet .

However, using my android phone from the saved password login, or from the link on their own front page,  the https forum link  goes straight to the 404 error.

Re: BT Infinity won't connect to pcspecialist forum, but BTWiFi will. DNS issue or something else?

I have just tried this on my Windows 10 laptop.  I can get to their main site, which in Firefox shows as https.  At the top is a link to the forum.  Clicking that takes me to the dreaded 404 page.

So does clicking the saved link from my OP.

Exactly the same in Edge browser, and Chrome.  The previous trick of using the http link does not achieve anything.

I have just connected the laptop wifi to BTWiFi-with-fon instead of the main connection (HomeHub6), logged in to that, and the link to the forum works perfectly first time in all browsers.

It has to be a BT issue.

Try clearing the browser cache/history on your phone, restart the phone and try again.

I'm confused. If this same issue is happening on tablet, phone, and on windows laptop, how will this make a difference?  The only commonality is that on connecting to my BTHub6, it fails.  On connecting to my BTWiFi, it works.

Re: BT Infinity won't connect to pcspecialist forum, but BTWiFi will. DNS issue or something else?

try changing the DNS server to google on the laptop and try again.

IPv4 DNS

  • 8.8.8.8
  • 8.8.4.4

IPv6 DNS

  • 2001:4860:4860::8888
  • 2001:4860:4860::8844

I was posting in response to this message

"Having got through once, I now have no problem on my tablet .

and my post crossed with your next message about not being able to use your laptop. Obviously if it is happening on your laptop as well it will not be the browser cache that is the problem!

Re: BT Infinity won't connect to pcspecialist forum, but BTWiFi will. DNS issue or something else?

I'm a PCS customer and forum member and just now tried my Favorite link for the forum and I get redirected to their homepage where I clicked the forum link this fails so I feel PCS have a problem.

I can log in to my account just the forum I can't access.
