BT Openreach needs permission but won't say who from...

Go to solution

Hi all

I have had an order to upgrade to full fibre since 17th June this year but my order keeps getting delayed for the same reason.  I am told by customer services that BT Openreach need permission to carry out the extra works required (dig up part of pavement and my driveway to install the new line). I keep being told their request for permission is not answered  and when I ask by whom BT Openreach won't state what is missing. Having contacted the highway network management department of my local council they have confirmed they have received no request for any work to be carried out. This went on and on until I decided to cancel my order out of frustration. To be clear  full fibre is available in my area,I live in my own home so have given permission for the work to be carried out on my property.

Still wishing to upgrade and  thinking perhaps holidays in August may have affected people getting in touch with each other I placed the order again with a new install date of the 26th November...  Silly of me to think but the issue is back with not knowing what permissions are required and receiving 5 text messages in 7 days  advising additional work needs to be carried out and if I want the work to go ahead to call the number.. Every time I make the call my date of installation moves to the next day so my new date is the 29th November...

Again I contacted the highway network department and still no request has been received...  I have made contact with BT Openreach and they till me to contact my provide which I have done on numerous occasions so I seem to be stuck in limbo!!!

As a last resort I come to the community to see if this has happened to anyone else and how they may have got it sorted??  I would love to upgrade, been a BT customer for quite a while and don't understand if I can get in touch with the right department why can't BT??

Looking forward to solutions.....

Thanks

There is no such company as BT Openreach , its just  Openreach and BT have no greater or lesser access into Openreach as any other ISP .

Post the return from this checker for your address , specifically the survey return .

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

it looks like this ( in this case a fully ducted property, yours may be different )

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Feed with no anticipated issues.

How are we supposed to read the post stamp sized image? If you have a problem with the image size use a free online image optimiser such as this https://imagecompressor.com/

If they need to dig up the public highway and your private land they’ll need a PTD Permission to Dig Form signed by you, usually the Engineer will get you to do that on his iPhone.

Regards to the dig on the public footpath. Openreach would put in a Permit for an Excavation on the Public Highway with the relevant Local Authority.

They don’t need a PTD from them, after the Permit is requested they’ll be given a Permit Number and are usually given a 3 day window to have the hole dug and reinstated, although if laying multiple metres of Duct Track that will be granted more time.

To be honest I’d avoid calling the Local Authority yourself as they’ve got this annoying habit of saying Openreach haven’t made any requests when in fact they have. When I was on Tools there’d be many a time I had to call them ref to a Permit and they’d claim not to have anything from us yet when I gave them the Permit Number low and behold they suddenly have the information in front on them.

Don’t forget, with the Local Authority you’re talking to Civil Servants. 😒

For info on Permit Digs in your area you’d be better off using this Map. Just put in your Post Code and it’ll show any Civils Work, etc that is planned and who by.
