BT infinity 1 with non BT router ??????

has anyone got a non-BT router working with the newer Infinity 1 which just uses the ADSL line?

The supplied HH5 connects fine but I can't get my former router to connect.

Hi there,

In order to use a third party router on BT Infinity, you need to have a white Open Reach modem, as the supplied BT Home Hub acts both as a modem and a router.

If you don't already have an OR modem, then you can purchase one from that well known auction site.

You would also need to ensure that any third party router that you intend using would be able to connect using the PPPoE protocol and has a WAN port. Usually, these routers are sold as "Cable routers", as opposed to ADSL routers, which, generally speaking, have modems on-board as well.

I hope this info helps. 😄

You need a vdsl modem or router. Infinity 1 fttc is not adsl. Its vdsl the same as infinity 2.

tried an openreach modem and configured the Belkin router to PPPoe...no joy.

proved the OR modem was OK using a BT HH so must be something in the Belkin messing about.

You have to use a PPPoE connection and the username is bthomehub@btbroadband.com only use a pass word if the router asks for one and if it does use anything you want or BT which will work.

Re: BT infinity 1 with non BT router ??????

tried that...no joy , so looks like i'm stuck with the HH5........however now with the HH5 reconnected on its own the whole internet connection is pathetic....died away off to about 3Mbps...hopefully its just a temporary issue.

If not then I'm not amused as my old standard broadband was always faster than that.

Try using the Openreach modem connected to the HH5

Re: BT infinity 1 with non BT router ??????

If you have been messing about with connection by connecting and disconnecting a modem it will probably have caused DLM (Dynamic Line Management) to have kicked in and lowered your speeds because it will have seen the disconnects as a fault.

If you leave it alone 24/7 for the next week or so, the speeds should slowly start to rise.
