We seem to have a recurring issue with Unlimited BT Infinity 2... but it's getting worse!
Basically, the broadband speed drops off dramatically in the evenings. The timing varies slightly but it usually occurs between 4:30 - 5pm and, whilst this used to be slightly irritating, the speed is now so slow that it's barely possible to load a simple web page.
During the day (off-peak hours), the connection is stable with download speeds comparable to those reported by the BTW speed test. In the evenings, although the BTW speed test still reports healthy down / upstream speeds, the usable performance is very poor.
I realise that network load is much higher during the evening but surely this can't be entirely responsible for the performance degradation? If so, the service is basically useless during peak hours.
I've just had a very frustrating conversation with the BT 'helpdesk' and a chap who insisted that either my Ethernet cable was faulty or there was a structural issue affecting my wifi connection (!). Any chance one of the mods can lend a hand before I tear out any more hair?!?
Both connection types are affected. There's no difference between the connection used during the day and in the evenings.
As I sit here working away, I can see the connection speed suddenly drop off each evening.
Can you post your line stats from the HH5 please? These are in Troubleshooting/Helpdesk on the web interface at http://192.168.1.254
Lines 1-13 will be enough
There is no throttling but congestion has the same effect. Openreach will be aware and no doubt planning an increase in capacity. It normally doesn't take them as long as VM.
