Another problem which I also have which may be related is whenewver I connect to my home network with my mobile phone via Wifi the connection speed on my computer whihc is connected via Ethernet slows right down. That issue started happenign arounf the same time as the connection speed issue.
Is there any noise on your phone calls? Dial 17070 and select option 2, there should be no noise between the announcements.
A speed drop like that is normally caused by a disconnection of one wire, in which case, you will also not get any dial tone on your landline phone.
Although a corded phone is better you can do it with cordless, you may get a small hum in the background.
If @Keith_Beddoe is correct it will not matter as there will be no dial tone. Quiet line test is best with corded but if cordless may get dull hum which is ok
Just tried to do the test and there was no dial tone. Ringing the landline number with my mobile didnt seem to get thorugh either.
You need to try using test socket and if still no dial tone then report phone fault to 151
It is very important that you report it as No Dial Tone, and not as a broadband fault, as phone faults get priority, and you broadband will get better once the phone line is working again.
