Connecting to new cabinet

Go to solution

Our village is connected to a cabinet several kilometres away. Even though this cabinet is upgraded the distance means no increase in broadband speed (still less than 2mbps) Bt have announced a new cabinet will be built in our village to solve the problem. How can homes in the village get connected to the new nearer cabinet? Obviously bt website still shows all bt landlines connected to old far away cabinet. Thank you!

It will likely happen automatically if this is what's called an "infill" cabinet.

Has the new cabinet been built yet?

No, it hasn't been built yet. Its due to be built next year. I guess it boils down to how BT classify the new cabinet. Most of the houses in the village are connected to the old cabinet (several KM away) but tips of village are connected to otherr cabinets (again some distance away).

Again, as I said, if it's an infill cabinet, which it sounds like it is, then Openreach will automatically move the lines they have planned into the new cabinet, as and when the time comes.
