Re: Copper to fibre - not so simple

Go to solution

Indeed...trouble is BT made up an incorrect name for my property long before we moved here, with the house having the correct name on maps since the 1870s and Royal Mail/council always correct too.  When Openreach installed the fibre, they clearly must've used the (correct) name on the house.

I contacted BT last year to get this changed at last, knowing it could cause an issue down the line (pardon the pun), but clearly whoever did it backspaced an address field and did nothing to update the actual system data

It wasn’t uncommon historically for an address to have several entry’s in the BT database , and when it was only ‘BT’  ( when it was a vertically integrated company, like Virgin for example   ) , those multiple entries  really didn’t matter , you could have aliases , AKA’s ,  informal addresses ( like ‘the cottage behind the Post Office’  ) it was only really  a ‘tip’ for the installer to locate the address in  question ,  with the regulator deciding that it was only ‘BT’ that had to separate  out the network  operations from the retail operation , it’s almost inevitable  that discrepancy’s will exist.

‘BT’ have no direct access into Openreach systems , hence the need for something like an ORDI (Openreach data integrity ) request, I presume when you attempted to fix this the last all that happened was BT updated their own ‘billing’ address information, the ‘installation address’ that’s the responsibility of OR , was not done hence the continued problem because the appropriate request wasn’t made to OR .

Hi. Not sure if you got this issue sorted but if not, try rattling off an e-mail to the BT CEO, explaining your issue and it will be forwarded to Executive Complaints. Good luck.
