Daily disconnects and sporadic slow speeds

Go to solution

I reported daily disconnects, and some slow speeds to BT.  The latter I thought maybe congestion as they appeared around the same times in the morning.  I thought possibly due to businesses in the village starting up.

I had a BT engineer visit yesterday.  He was difficult to understand due to his foreign accent but all he kept saying was he got 40Mbps on his test.  Well of course he did, that's what I get in the afternoon.

Do you think the two issues might be related or have any other ideas please ?

apart from only 17hrs uptime stats look good with noise margin down at 3.7db suggesting G.INP active

need btspeedtester results with wired conenction when poor and when good  preferably using IE/Edge

Uptime was from a disconnect at 01:02, that being after the BT engineer disconnected my router to run a test yesterday at around 5pm.

need btspeedtester results with wired conenction when poor and when good  preferably using IE/Edge

Will do again when I can but that is not very easy.

Putting speed to one side, what might be causing these frequent disconnects.  I got them with my previous router HH6A, details were on an old thread of mine, but it seems worse since the OR engineer installed the HH6B.

Re: Daily disconnects and sporadic slow speeds

Hi @imjolly,

Not had any "normal" versus "slow" speeds to post.

However, I am still getting the daily, or sometimes more than one a day, disconnects.

Since this happens almost solely when I am not using the computer, and the downstream speeds remain about the same, it is not too much of an issue.  The only frustration is that I get logged out from some websites, this one included, every time it happens.

Do you , or anyone else reads this, have any ideas why this should be happening please ?

dropping internet connection on a daily basis is not normal and needs investigated

have you checked when disconnected for line noise?

are the disconnections about same time of day suggesting some home interference?

have you checked when disconnected for line noise? No because, as I think I have said before they happen when I am not using the computer.  The only way I am aware of the disconnects is way after the event when I have been logged out of websites.

The quiet line test has been OK ever since the fault was rectified.

are the disconnections about same time of day suggesting some home interference?Mainly during the night.  I have kept a note of the more recent disconnects, in anticipation of your question, viz :-

01:02, 05:34, 05:45, 02:25, 05:14, 05:50, 03:16 and yesterday at 22:51.

We have nothing switching on and off at those times.

Re: Daily disconnects and sporadic slow speeds

Hi @imjolly,

For the first time in a long while I had a disconnection while I was actually using the computer. Annoyingly it happened while I was bidding on ebay so I lost the item.

So as you requested I immediately ran a quiet line test and it was silent.

Does this WAN log give you any ideas what might be causing this please.

that is almost 14 days stable so wonder if that is '14 day reset' problem  where hub resets every 14 days ish
