Download speed dropped 75Mbps in the last 30 days.

Hello, I have been having some problems with my BT Fibre 250 broadband. The download speed has drop 75Mbps in the last 30 days. The speed seems to drop about 10Mbps each time the BT Smart Hub 2 loses connection or crashes (hub lights flash orange or purple). I have noticed it do this 8 times in the last 30 days.

The broadband and phone service were installed in December 2020. This included a new cable from the telegraph pole to the house, and a new master socket. There are no extensions on the socket. Since then, the smart hub has routinely dropped connections. I have not seen the DSL uptime longer than 10 days. Although the speed remained fairly consistent at 265Mbps for the first 3 months or so. The current Download speed is: 170Mbps

I have had 2 engineer visits in the past 2 months, they both said the everything was okay.

I am hopping there is something that can be done to improve the download speed.

Thank You

The speed has dropped again. Very close to the bare minimum Stay FAST Guarantee: 150Mbps.

Any Advice?

Any noise on your line? 17070 option 2, best with corded phone. You may get a dull background hum with cordless.

Hello,  I just checked using a cordless phone. There is some very quiet static noise in the background.

You need to report a noisy line. The test should come back silent. Any noise will affect your broadband.

I will give BT a call tomorrow then.

Is there anything out of the ordinary in the Technical Log in my first post?

Re: Download speed dropped 75Mbps in the last 30 days.

Yes , your download noise margin due to the noise on your line. It should be around 6dB that's why I suggested the QLT. Make sure you report a noisy line problem not a broadband one.

Once that is resolved you speeds should return to normal over a few days. Get back if it doesn't or you have further problems.
