Download:upload ratio

Hi guys,

Quick question;

What speed should I be expecting from my Infinity connection?

I was given speed quote of 50Mb, I have however not received this speed. I was getting 36-40Mb during 10 day period and now it's between 28-36Mb.

During 10 day period I had 13Mb constant upload. After 10 days I restarted modem and router and my upload speed shot up to 17.22Mb. Surely with such a high upload speed I should be receiving a faster download speed?

Anyone shed any light on the ration that is normally followed?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Download:upload ratio

Are you testing your speed via the LAN cable with no one else on your network?

Also, its best not to re boot the modem and instead, only re boot the home hub.

Re: Download:upload ratio

I've rebooted the modem once after the 10 day training period, as recommended.

I use wireless as not even had chance to hardwire.

What download speed would you expect with an upload of 17?

Thanks

Re: Download:upload ratio

All depends on the quality of your wireless connection.

Do test wired if at all possible.

Also run the speedtest at  http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and after the test choose ‘Further Diagnostics’ and post the speeds and the profiles that this gives.  The download profile usually gives a good indication of available download speed, though there are cases where people cannot get near it even with a perfect wired connection.

Re: Download:upload ratio

Many thanks for the input, I have the day off work today and decided to try wired.

Results:

Not too sure if you can see the image, pretty impressive considering the cabinet is 0.4 miles away!:)

Re: Download:upload ratio

You do know that the best result you could get via your iphone (it seems that's what your original speedtest stated) is the result you posted.

Hardwired all the way if you want mega fast speeds.
