Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

Hi all,

After a fairly torturous experience (another story....) I was finally reconnected to Infinity on Thursday this week, after moving house.

I thought I would leave the ECI model and HH4 plugged in for a few days to make sure everything was stable, which it has been, before plugging my Draytek Vigor 2750n back in. I used the Draytek for not long short of 18 months for my Infinity connection at my old property and no issues whatsoever. Rock solid connection, constantly.

So, I am frustrated and confused that after plugging the Draytek in at my new home, it is going through an apparently contant loop of the VDSL status (profile 17a) moving from "Idle", to Handshake, into "Training" then "Showtime", followed 30 seconds to a minute later by the WAN status being populated, the text turning green and then me having a connection and being able to reach Google, bbc.co.uk, etc.

And then about 30 second to 1 minute later...the cycle starts again. VDSL status turns red, moves to Idle, Handshake, etc all over again.

The log doesn't see to give much away to me, but is pasted below in case anyone else can make sense of it.

My thanks in advance.

LJ

Re: Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

So, to add to this. Somewhat bizarrely (to me at least) if I remove the PPPOE details and leave the Draytek, then the VDSL connection and status is absolutely rock solid. Not a single "cycle" of idle, handshake, training, showtime. Just uninterrupted "Showtime" and solid line status. SNR upstream varies in a narrow range of 59 (0.1 db) to 61 and the downstream sticks at 62. UP Speed of 4,972 and Down Speed of 24,543. Been absolutely static for the past 15 mins.

This would imply to me that there is something at the end of the attempt to connect via PPPOE that is actively causing the disconnect. But I have no idea what, or how to resolve it.

It seems to be a common problem http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Draytek-Vigor-2750n-Connection-Issues/td-p/355021/page/17

Re: Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

I've been through that thread already and have followed every tip in it. No luck (in fairness, that thread is a number of different issues people have had, all in one place).

I am far from being an expert, but it simply does not make sense to me that the router that was solid as a rock at my old house, is now being "kicked off" the Infinity connection.

Does your PPPOE setup include a password?

Re: Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

Yes.

Initially of course it was just whatever I had put in there 18 months ago (a "." I think), but when I went through the process of factory resetting, etc. I have tried ".", a space, "PW", "1234" and "12345" all of which users on here have used and found to be working. Same issue every time.

The log file suggestions CHAPS authentication works, but then the termination starts again.

Re: Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

Did you remember to set the  Multi-VLAN setting to 101 in the 2750n`s settings.?

Also on the WAN page you should use the "always on" choice,it should be ok but worth a check.

And BTW,I use the same Draytek combo and use my .btinternet.com email address for the User ID also my email PW for the VDSL logon details.

Re: Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

Thanks both.

Yes, 101 absolutely in the ID field within the Multi-VLAN area, as it was before when it was working.

Have set to "Always on", again as was at my previous home when the Draytek was working.

I've tried bthomehub@btinternet.com (as it was before when it was working), I've tried bthomehub@btbroadband.com and I've tried my firstname.surname@btinternet.com username and password (that does allow me to log in to my email so I know the details are correct).

Nothing....

Literally the only thing that has change is the line I am connected to after I've moved house.

Re: Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

A long shot, but what firmware version do you use.?

I use v1.5.3.

There is one more thing that might not matter, but when you reset the draytek, the Time settings need updating,it sometimes reverts to 1970.

BTW did you make a backup of your config file before the move,if so you could try reloading it back in.?

Re: Draytek Vigor 2750 / Infinity connection problems

Thanks again ironman.

Initially, I was on 1.5.3 as I had been previously (maybe 3-4 months) but no luck. Reverted to 1.5.2 which I'd used for about a year. No luck. Even tried the beta of 1.5.2 which I still had. Nope

Sync'd up the time using the browser. Nothing. During the all too brief connections the time also syncs with the nntp server (see the log above). Again, inevitable termination regardless.

Have tried using the config file I saved before I updated to 1.5.3. Have tried resetting to factory defaults.

All to no avail.

I can't help but think its something purely on the BT end. Everything is right on my side, everything has worked before now. But suddenly I can't stay connected.
