Ethernet cable

Afternoon,

we're thinking about having BT Infinity installed into our household. The router will be downstairs most likely. The MAIN PC is upstairs though, which is used nearly 24/7. Will the engineer be able to run an Ethernet cable from the router downstairs to the PC upstairs on site?

Re: Ethernet cable

Yes but he will run it along skirting boards and around doors. They are not allowed to place it under carpets.

If you would rather run the cable yourself you can do that. You may be able to route it outside via airbricks or drilling walls which the engineer might not do for you.

EDIT: My mistake, I thought you were wanting router upstairs as well. He won't do it just to connect the PC.

Re: Ethernet cable

Probably not, usually all they can do is run a cable from the master socket to the modem.

Re: Ethernet cable

He could but its doubtful,

He could move the master socket but only if its not a complicated move.

With regards to getting connected upstairs you have a few solutions you can go.

Powerline adapters: these plug a electrical socket and act like a eithernet bridge.

They come in pairs so you would plug one in by the router and the other by the PC in question.

Wireless: if the house is not to big and your not trying to go through to many walls.

Run a network cable your self 🙂

I can expand on this if you wish

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Re: Ethernet cable

Your Infinity installation will probably be carried out by a subcontractor

Quinn possibly. They don't carry the kit to move the master socket, all

they have are new faceplates and the modems.

Best bet is to run a bit of Cat5 yourself. You can even get kits from

the like of Maplins to make it easier.
