Existing Customer v New Customer Cost

Hi,

So I've been with BT for a long time and decided I want to upgrade from Broadband to Fibre.  I looked at the deals and Fibre 900 quoted at £35.99 then £39.99 in 2028.  Thought ok, that'll would do me but I wasn't logged in so logged in and went for same upgrade and it's showing me Fibre 900 for £77.22 going up to £81.22 in 2028.

How is that working then - are existing customers charged over twice the monthly cost or am I missing something and not interpreting that correctly

Your best bet is probably to speak to the “Retentions team” on 08007831401

Do some research first, find out prices for like-for-like products with other suppliers, then phone them and negotiate a better price.

I’d also question if you need 900Mb/s?  You only need that sort of speed if you have six kids that are avid gamers and you and the Mrs want to download separate 4k movies at the same time.  Most people won’t notice that speed increase because once it is fast enough, it is fast enough.  (A bit like using a 140mph car on a 70mph motorway).

For myself, I went from 68Mb/s Part Fibre (FTTC) to 74Mb/s Full Fibre (FTTP), then 150Mb/s FTTP.  Did I notice any difference operationally…no.  The big difference between FTTC and FTTP is that FTTP is far more stable.  What you get is what it says on the tin.  None of this “it varies with the distance, the weather, the wind direction etc.”

EDIT: Oh, and if you've got Halo, get rid of it.

Make sure you are comparing like with like. When people complain on the forum about not getting the same price it is invariably because they are not comparing like with like. They usually have some add on such as Halo or a TV Package, or a Sports package etc that they have not factored in to the price they are paying.
