FTTP Modem/Router change for Gaming

Go to solution

Hello

I have recently moved to FTTP with the Smart Hub TYPE -A, However for gaming on the xbox it seems awful, especially wireless (which i do not use often) Is it possible to purchase a new Modem/Router and have that replace the actual BT Smart Hub ?

I was looking at something like a ASUS gaming Modem.

Would i just be able to plug into the box and be away ?

Thanks for any help.

You don't need a modem, just a router. The ONT is the modem.

Have you checked your router settings? A good place to start is by separating the 2.4 and 5GHz bands for frequent drop outs.

As mentioned the ONT is the Modem and you can’t get rid of it. That ONT is specific to your line. It’ll only work on the Splitter it’s assigned to.

If you were to obtain a third party ONT it wouldn’t work.

You can use a Third Party Router if you want but the ONT has to stay.

You can use any router with a wan port, frequently referred to as "cable routers".
